Looking for a new elk rifle. Was really set on an X-Bolt Mountain Pro in 300 WSM (23”, 6.1lbs, $2200).

Recently the Christen Arms rifles have been on sale for $350 off. There’s a Mesa at my local store in 300 win mag (24”, $950). Does anyone know the weight of there? I’m seeing 6.65 or 7.3 depending where I look.

Should I just pull the trigger and go with the Mesa at that cost? I know it’s not necessarily fair to compare the two, and perhaps the Ridgeline would be a more apt comparison — but I don’t see much in the Ridgeline I don’t get in the Mesa (and my local store has no 300WSM or 300 WM in stock anyway!).

For what it’s worth, I hunt elk much less than I’d like to and I have a Fieldcraft 6mm for everything smaller.

Weight depends upon chambering. My 6.5 PRC is 7.3. My 6.5 Creedchrist is 6.6. I am assuming the 300 mag is going to be 7.3.

Thanks. Heavier than I’d like I suppose.

It’s just hard to turn down a deal, especially with gift cards burning a hole in my pocket!

Same here in that my 6.5 Mesa weighs 6.6lbs. Friends with a 6.5prc was 7.3 but also has a 2”longer barrel.

CA does sell the hinged floor plate, bolt knob, and stock off their titanium Mesa FFT model which knocks some off the weight? But that’s $750 for all that and maybe only a 1/2lb savings? Maybe find it in classifieds cheaper?

Mine with a set of Talley LW mounts and a 2.5-16x50(30mm tube) scope weighs a total of exactly 8lbs. I will say that it isn’t nose heavy at all and seems to balance really nice.
