Cable crossing

I’m doing some e scouting in Idaho and see some cable crossing marked on the map along trails across major waterways. Can someone with local knowledge of these please pm me with some details as to their usability? Generally Are they public access and use? In good working order? Anything i should know before planning on using one?

I've never used one, but the ones I have seen vary greatly in condition/maintenance. I would start by contacting the Forest Service office in the area you are looking at and ask them for specifics on the crossing in question.

Thanks for the reply i only seen one last year in a different unit and it did not look like it was operational. But then again I think it was for a mine and not trail access

It could be a usgs measuring station. Won’t be open to public use.

I think every one I know of, Clearwater region only, are private
