I got a bug up my butt to paint my stock stock... mostly cuz my brother likes my T3X superlite stainless so much he just bought himself one. So how do you tell two identical rifles apart in camp? Custom paint jobs. I used the rope wrap method and I gotta say for $30, it’s amazing. Started off masking and wrapping the black stock in garden twine.
Note... some of the photos are rotated for maximum size.

Let it dry. Then a second wrap of twine with some twigs and sprigs of fake pine twigs from an old Xmas tree. Trying to cover a lot of the khaki so the end product has a lot of Khaki showing.

And then a few spots of army green on top of the darker green. I forgot to get a pic before I unwrapped it but here it is with one coat of clear satin.

I’ll post some assemble pics either later tonight or in the morning. So I need a name for this camo pattern when I’m asked about it at the range. “Garage Optifade”? “Alkali SniperTwine”? “CamoTikka Real-Rope”?

Never have heard or seen the rope method but, I am digging it. Gotta love the home made camo jobs. I've used a bunch of Krylon camo spray over the years.

I used the small sponge method. It was a fun project.

I really like the stainless barrel on your rifle with the camo stock; it looks slick!

And here they are side by side. His first attempt looked too similar, so he got out the sponge and went all forest green on it. His is wearing Leupold 4.5-14 x 50 mm so the scopes are visually identical too. Both are 30-06 so I guess it won’t really matter if one of us leaves camp with the wrong rifle at 4 am. He was so pleased with his paint job he took it in the bathroom and was in there a really long time.

Going to the range to sight his in tomorrow.

This looks awesome! Do you recommend any sort of prep on the stock beforehand, e.g. roughing it up, degreasing, etc.?

I just wiped the stock with white gas twice. You could lightly scuff sand it with 320 grit but I didn’t. My brother did sand his, so we’ll see if there’s any difference in durability. I did make sure that the paint I bought would stick to plastic... says right on the can.

It really becomes.obvious it.came off an Xmas tree.in this pic, if the next photo includes blinking lights I may piss myself!!
Next time I paint a rifle, I'm totally doing xmas lights. See if anybody in camp picks up on it. I'll give you credit for the idea.
