Hey Folks, going to be hunting Unit 46 early to mid October this year, have both mule deer & elk tags. Anyone have any experience hunting this unit? Any general suggestions for hunting river canyons? Plan to take a scouting trip in early August. Used to hunting the high country of Nevada, PJ, aspen groves, but this unit seems bare with the exception of the riparian environment of the canyons. Any though would be appreciated.

You probably know but in case you don't, unit 46 is draw only for elk unless you are doing the hunt within 1 mile of private agricultural land.

The only river canyons that run through 46 is the far west edge "have fun hauling anything out of there. Bring climbing gear!" And the northern edge. When you do find deer. Its goingnto be mostly 3 pointers and crabclaw 4s when you find them. And as said above the elk for otc has to be within 1 mile of agfields...

Heavy heavy pressure has made the elk pretty much non existent. If you do find them, they will likely have their tongues out panting and be on the run. Might also be someone on a side by side chasing them.
