Just got home from a successful Aoudad hunt. Brought the fully frozen cape back
in an ice chest full of ice. It was in a couple garbage bags and everything remained
mostly frozen. There was some slush in the bottom of the cooler and the bag with the cape had
some slush/blood in it. I drained it and have put it in the chest freezer till I can get it to the
taxidermist.
Think it's gonna be ok with that slush? Should I pull the cape out and wash it off good and re-freeze?

Thanks.

Keep it frozen, leave it alone and take it to a taxidermist. They will know when they thaw it or after they get it back from the tannery if its any good.

Same as ^^^ Cape's are pretty tough. If it stayed cold at all you'll be fine. You'd probably smell it if it turned and the slight defrost you stated says it's highly likely it's fine. It's taken me up to 3 days to get a mule deer cape out of the high country and never once lost one if I just kept it out of the sun and cool with no refrigeration. It'll stay good for a very long time frozen in your freezer.
