Hey

Searched - didn't much that was recent, so created a new thread - apologies if I missed anything.

Looking for a cellular trail camera to send updates for our barn that is out of reach of the wifi. The barn is between the road and the house and despite a gate, we occasionally get a curious person. While we have been lucky and nothing has been taken, and I don't expect that a camera will save the day, just want to have the option.

Looking for something that will push pictures and notifications. Hopefully, not be too expensive for the cell plan either.

Let me know what you have used and what works. Vosker, Trailcampro and spypoint all came up in searches.

Thanks

edit - apologies. Didnt even realize there was a whole sub-forum for trail cams.

Spartan GoLive gives best images and has internal power reserve that transmits GPS location even if batteries taken out. Tacticam is cheapest and has longest battery life.

Spypoint absolutely sucs. Battery life, CS, and the APP. For the last two months I have had to delete the APP and download it again every time I want to see pics that are supposed to be sent as they are taken. Spypoint CS says "we're working on it" the last 3 times I have called them.
I have 4 Tactacam that have been flawless. My Spypoint is #5, that's right, been replaced 4 times in one year. I might have gotten 2 months service paid for 12. I have the Spypoint in another state so every time it fails I spend $80 in gas to go get a $100 camera. Brillant I am.

I've had bad experiences as well with Spypoint. Some on here have had good luck, but that was not my experience. I was not impressed with their customer service. We made the switch to the Cuddelinks, and have been using them for the last couple of seasons & have had good results. They are easy to setup, they send the pics, and I haven't had to call their customer service one time.

I have 15 Tactacams spread across 5 properies and they're great. All work well and most are on their second year. Affordable, a breeze to set up, and a few bucks a month per camera depending on plan. I think it's the only way to go.

For security purposes I would definitely go with a cam that allows you to watch video feed in real time. I'm not sure of all the brands that can do this, but the Spartan GoLive 2 would be what I would choose, just based on my experiences with various trail cams.

I would also be sure to have it rigged up to a solar panel.

You are going to get a ton a people that say the Tactacam because there relatively cheap for a cell cam and they work decent for what they cost. But here are a few other options that I have used that I believe are much better than the tactacams & spypoints but are more $$$

I am using both reveal tactacam and moultrie mobile. I like tactacam more.

No matter what, get a solar panel. They chew through batteries.

Nothing beats RECONYX ! Made in the USA and exceptional customer service. I save my $$ and only buy RECONYX . My friends and relatives are always complaining about their Chinese made game cams not functioning properly .

Another vote for the Tactacam. Mine send pics from 20-26 seconds. Walmart had the x for 89.00 online.

I run covert cams. They have been great. Battery usage has been better than expected.

Tactacams are cheap for a reason - they are more prone to missing stuff than other cams. You can’t get photo bursts transmitted to your phone and the one I have takes 16 seconds to recover from a picture before it can trigger for another, if you have it set to instant transmittal mode the delay is longer than that. The other thing is their sensor is extremely narrow vertically. If you want to angle a camera down from above it results in a short detection zone.

I’d probably look into something more dedicated for security like reolink. I do think the Spartan golive cams sound like a good option from the hunting side of things.

I cant tell ya what to run, but at this point I can tell ya what I think you DONT want to run....and that would be the bushnell. They have gone thru 3 iterations of trail cams in a handful of years. I liked the aggressors, but they discontinued the cell service for them, so they became obsolete. THAN....they came out with the Impulse....HATED it. They did away with those and now have cellucore 20, 24 and 30's. I bought 2 24's initally, and then added 3 cellucore 20's. Well....ive had 4G Initialization problems on numerous Cellucore 24's. I also had a water intrusion issue on 2 more of them. The 20's are ok, but not enough features and you cant use them as a regular trail camera and change settings without having a data plan....UGGG>
Now, Im waiting for them to send me replacement cameras and they dont have mine in stock. While they are sending me upgraded" cellucore 30's to replace my 24's....not sure they will be any more reliable, and ive been waiting for over 3 weeks now. Cell service is spotty in my area, and they dont always send pics reliably. I have one camera over a hog trap, and the plan was to use the trail cam to only visit the trap when necessary or to dispatch a hog. Well.....THAT hasnt been the case, and I dont have confidence that the carmera will send pics when it should. Each time I call customer service (and there have been plenty of calls), im on hold for 30 minutes up to an hour and a half!! NOT GOOD. CMON BUSHNELL....REALLY??

I am experimenting with a solar/battery powered cellular security cam, the Reolink Go. So far it's not too bad. Runs on a data sim card. I used eiotclub simcard and the 180 day trail cam plan for data for around $36 I believe. Access through the Reolink app. Setup is as easy as installing the activated simcard, scaning the code with your phone and it fires right up. I bought some of the last refurbs available. Now the reolink Go2 is available. More than a Tactacam though.

Terrible customer support. No one live on phones. If need tech support, email is only way and takes them 2-3 days to respond.
Unreasonable.

I have had good luck with the Spypoints although I am not in a remote area. Good cell service in the area... no wifi on the property. They are pretty cheap and the basic plan is free. Just busted tresspassers with them last week. Got this pic, five minutes later the PD was there. See attached. Kids were nice enough to pose with hammers in hand... After they smashed windows and slashed the tires on my trailer. Now they get to go through a nice 6 week diversion program with the local PD...
