Robby your advice is spot on. My brother and myself have been hunting the same unit for mule deer for 6 years now. It is not a trophy unit or even known to most as a good unit for big deer. You can draw a smoke pole tag with zero points as well as archery. It took us a couple of years to learn the unit but now we see big bucks every season (180"+) and have taken some good bucks. I have chased the trophy areas and shot some decent animals. I now hunt the areas I have hunted since I was a kid and see and shoot good animals consistently. Trophy units are great but nothing beats knowing a unit inside and out with good back up spots in the unit to hunt.
