CO Elk Hunt

Can anyone point me in the right direction of some post about DIY Elk hunt.

Or give me some pointers on areas to avoid and areas to pursue. My cousin and I are going to be heading to Colorado next September to do some hunting.

Any advice is welcomed.

First search around here.

Second, after you choose an area, go visit it. Go scout.

If you can bring someone who has elk hunted before that wild probably be your biggest advantage.

Understand that most are successful for several years.

People here, and most forums, will not tell you where to go. That's up to you.

Your preference point situation to a large degree dictates what parts of the state will be available to you. The maps below show which units had over-the-counter (i.e., unlimited) archery elk tags and which units required you to draw a tag from a limited quota in 2020. The 2021 regulations won't be published until February, but I doubt the OTC/draw unit designations will change much. Between the OTC map and historical draw odds, you can start narrowing down the units for which you have reasonable chance of getting a tag next year.
