CO Gunnison 2nd Rifle

Hey...i'm just looking into information about the Gunnison area. CO resident here...just oging to explore new country and get out of the down fall around North Park and Steamboat.

Just curios what kind of snow fall or weather to expect in GMU 54. We are planning on coming in North of Blue Mesa and camping....idk if we want to do a camper or wall tent yet or bivy in a ways. I know there are a few outfitters that run up a few west elk...but we may do the typical Rainbow lake road and camp off that.

Any info on weather, road conditions, and potential csmping spots or whats best(tent or truck camping)

I'd say you can expect somewhere around 0-70 degrees Fahrenheit and conditions ranging from bluebird to blizzard.

There was a pretty intense storm during 2nd rifle 2019 that shut down a lot of hunters, according to one of the outfitters in there I spoke with. There's one WeatherUnderground station at higher elevation in 54 but it doesn't have records before 2018. The other surrounding stations kind of show what the others mentioned. I'd say one out of every four seasons it looks like it gets nasty.
