My dad and I are holding deer tags for unit 421 (and associated units) for 3rd rifle. We're planning on hunting the western side of the Mesa and it will be our first time there. I'm basically looking for advice on elevations or conditions I need to be focusing on. For instance light snow vs heavy snow and how much might push them lower. We'll have bull elk tags also as they're OTC. Many thanks everyone!

Good luck, that place was CRAWLING with people when I was there during archery season last fall (rifle bear tag). I was in Unit 42 and 521, barely could find a place to pitch a tent.

It was a dry year last year, and the country was badly overgrazed by cattle. Not much water to be found. I saw a cow elk with her calf, a Muley doe, and about 400 head of beef in the week and a half I hunted up there. Every clearing had 3-4 hunters on it minimum, and there were boot tracks everywhere.
