I will be rifle hunting the west edge of the west elk mountains this fall just off the wilderness area. Got a few spots picked out and really looking forward to checking out some cool country.

I would really appreciate if anyone who has hunted the area could drop some pictures of the landscape and/or any animals you may have taken there. I’ve got a pretty good feel for it from google earth but pictures always help and my google search didn’t turn up much.

Thanks much in advance!

I’ll be there in archery for the first time, good luck! I see some promising spots out there, but going in blind for the most part.

Thanks for the replies and PMs so far! I should have specified that I will be there during the first rifle season.

I have been in the W Elks during archery. It has some tough & steep country. Sorry I can't help on good info for 1st rifle.

Loved the West Elk Pics, I will be out there the first two weeks of archery this year. It seems every time I look at the map I change my mind on access points. I plan to be as mobile as I have to trying to find an area with minimal pressure.

Hunted this area last year during archery. Heavy heavy hunting pressure.
