I struggle digesting whey protein so I have been trying some alternatives like pea, egg white, rice and now collagen. I can deal with all of them but when thinking about packing protein into the backcountry I think the collagen protein is going to be the one. For anyone that hasn’t tried it, it doesn’t change the taste or texture of the water... no gritty taste. You could dump a heap in your water bladder and not even know you were getting protein/calories. It has a different ratio of aminos and is not as good as whey for muscle building, but is supposed to be better for tendons/joints. I’m on the wrong side of 40 and I know my joints will probably fail me before my muscle so it may be a good thing. Thought I’d share.
