Had the tag a few years ago and talked to a couple local kids that said that free range Buffalo were fair game around the Utah border. If this is true is there huntable numbers or just dumb luck that a guy comes across one ? We drew a muzzy tag again this year and thought a guy might have to spend a couple days looking for a buff.

Well if a couple local kids gave you the green light I say go for it.

I was told the same thing about bison in ND. If you see them outside of the park they are fair game. I found 3 nice bulls outside the park this spring and talked to the warden about it. He said nope it’s not legal.

The funny thing is the local landowners have killed quite a few. The park doesn’t want to deal with damage claims from the landowners so it’s kind of an unwritten agreement.

Colorado might treat them as a nuisance species so it might be fair game?

I would talk to the wildlife officer for that area. I live in Colorado and the only ones I've heard of are private so they might be someone's escaped herd.
