Yesterday, I watched a big bull excavate a pit, urinate in it a few times and wallow around for awhile. He was grunting up a storm and thrashing anything he could. After awhile it seemed he decided there weren't any cows around and headed down the drainage.
The previous evening I had been calling elk in the same vicinity thinking the wallows looked sort of strange. I'm glad he didn't make an appearance then...
As I'm watching him work his way down the willows, this young cow elk comes down just dogging behind him. I'm fairly certain she was looking to hybridize... Mr moose appeared to be saving himself and gave her the cold shoulder. A funny sight it was.
Walking in this morning, I could hear another one grunting. Keep an eye out if you're in the bottoms!
