In the gunnison basin we are getting slammed again - it is starting to look like another big winter.. The snow is up over the 2nd rung on the bar wire or over belly deep on the deer in many places and they are down on hwy 50. Never seen a place that needs a deer fence more than 50 as too many deer get blown up by tourists skiers or semi's on years like this when the snow gets deep. -9 right now and high temps will not be above freezing for another 10 days with most lows below zero.
This year is not as bad as 08 and 17 yet - those years a huge blizzard came in early but more steady snow this winter. Unless it warms up or with another storm we will pry be arguing about if feeding is effective.
They say 2 out of 3 isn't bad unless you are talking about hard winters and it looks like we are on the path of another hard winter as this one sure has passed the easy and normal levels at this point. Or flat out at this point we will see a bigger than normal winter kill this year.
N-C moderate snow pack moderate temps. Which to any normal person would be incredible snow depth and bitter cold but it's moderate compared to what they can handle.
Snow is deep around Steamboat. Not quite as bad around Walden. I don't know what the total snowfalls have been but there was definitely more brush poking out in North Park than the Yampa valley.
Looks to be another 3 day storm coming. This one will put the snow totals for the year above that of the 2016-17 winter in the sw and central part of the state... Or this winter is on pace to have the highest snow totals since 2008 and may well surpass 1995 totals with spring moisture. Time to pay attention boys...
