I committed last year and in a zone California I may never get a deer, but rabbits and squirrels keep me going. I sold the compound. It's a great feeling!

+1 on the thumpers. I use zwickey kondor for quail, but I love the accuracy of the thumpers on long rabbit shots
Yeah, I used to hunt D8 when I was stationed in Ridgecrest, think I can count on 2 fingers how many legal deer I seen in a couple three seasons! Loved chasing the mountain quail around midday though!

Update: deciding on a hunting arrow
I have 2 arrows that are flying very well

Arrow 1: just short of 500gr. 225gr point with a 12gr insert. About 2.5in longer than arrow #2

Arrow 2: just short of 600gr. 175gr point with a 75gr insert

Investing in some broadheads to see what really flys well

I honestly don't know yet. I don't get to shoot more than 25ish very often. I am pretty comfortable shooting my first arrow set up. I shoot it pretty well from varying distances and angles

Cleared some shooting lanes and took some practice shots. Definitely smacked the limb off my leg on the first shot. Also was able to spend some quality outdoors time with my grandpa
