I want to use a monolithic bullet for my .270 Win. this fall (Mule deer or Elk). Any bullet suggestions worth giving a hard look at? My barrel is 22” with a 1:10 twist. Shot distance on game will not exceed 600 yards.

I got good results on paper using 117 gn Hammer Hunters, but the bullet seems a little light for mule deer and especially elk. Any thoughts on this? Can I find a heavier solid copper bullet that might shoot well out of my barrel?

Depending on how hard you are pushing the HH, I don't think 117gr is too light for deer or elk. I'm not sure an elk will know the difference between 117 that is going faster than a 130 or 140 (which has taken plenty)

I’m averaging right around 3,000 fps with them. I think they might get close to 3,100 fps if I can ever get my hands on some Reloader 17.

117 is fine for mule deer. I'd even shoot an Elk with it if that was all I had.

If I'm in the mood for lightweight I'll shoot muleys with my son's. 243 using 100gr Core-Lokts. Works as advertised and they die.

I have some 110gr loads I use in my .270 for mule deer as well. Just to try different things for no particular reason. Those are loaded with Accubonds.

They’re hard to find right now but I’ve had great luck with the factory Barnes with the ttsx 130 grain. Also shooting them out of a 1:10 twist. Cant speak out past 300 tho
I went with this bullet because it shot the best groups out of my tikka .270.

I’m in Ca so have to use non-lead. Have used 110 and 130gr TTSX with good accuracy and results on game. My 270 didn’t like the gmx bullet, but my dads M70 likes them.

If you can find them the Barnes LRX would be the ticket. But.....good luck finding any of these bullets. I’ve resigned to the fact that I’ll need to make do with what I have on hand for a while.

Have you looked into the Hammer shock hammer line? They offer up to 145 grains with a similar G7 as the 129 lrx and 130 etips and better then the 130 TTSX. Plus you can order Hammer bullets and good luck finding any other copper bullets right now. If you can find some RL26, it will increase your velocity as well.

We've had great luck for years with the 130 TTSX, but with a couple rifles we've moved to the LRX 129. a little better BC and was told by Barnes it will properly expand down to 1500 FPS.

I’d call Steve I have a 270 wsm and I’m running the 117 up over 3500 and. That rifle is a tight chambered pita. I would think you should be in the 3300 range.

I checked with them on 4/2018 and the response was 1700 fps min expansion velocity. I'm in the process of working up a load with them, so it doesn't really matter, but do you know if this is a change in design?

Hammer recently released a 124g version of the hammer hunter that will stabalize in the factory 1:10 twist .270s. I'll be loading these up for mine as well.

I can order you some Hornady GMX 130 grain projectiles. One of my distributors has them in stock right now.

Good to know. I might give these a try even though the mass is only 7 gr more than what I'm shooting now.
