There is an island 30 miles out in Lake Michigan called North Fox. In the 1970s, it was owned by a rich doctor, who was part of a child murder/pornography ring. He built an airstrip on the Island, and cabin. His group would fly young boys under the guise of "summer camp" to photograph and molest them. The doctor was charged and fled the country, never to be seen again. The island went into tax arrears, and is now owned by the state. My girlfriend and I often fly out there for a remote experience and beautiful star gazing....but its still creepy to know what went on here. When I was a kid, the kids about my age were disappearing where I lived, and it was actually this group that was doing it!
Here's a pod cast about it:

And some of our pictures from going there, including the cabin (now burnt down) where this happened:

Yep, there are vampires out there. They need to be hunted down and burned at the stake....

Of course, there are libs out there that now want all of us to call them "minor-attracted people." Part of the new normal, the great re-set. The sound asleep "woke" culture and cancel freedom and liberty cult.
What about the vampires that suck the life out of every thread on Rokslide by bringing up politics?

Politics are the most important aspect hunters and outdoorsmen are facing. You either become involved, or you let leftists dictate the future of the sport. Whiners never are able to figure that out.....
What does that have to do with this thread though? This is for someone to share their creepy experiences they have had in the backcountry. I don’t see how this fits.

I don’t disagree with you, just that you are putting in a thread everyone loves and it doesn’t have a place here, according to the topic. Start your own thread about your views.

But see if you dont post it every where or turn every conversation political, you cant make everyone equally as miserable as you are.

Not creepy, but always makes me curious.
Heard two separate wood knocks while packing an elk out in Colorado around midnight.

Camping but not backcountry. I was in middle school and we went on a youth camping trip with a bunch of folks. This was down in the swamps of Florida prob about 2002ish. The campsite is fairly remote but there was a bathroom available, and my three tent mates and I get the genius idea to TP everyone’s tents that night. So we go to the crapper and secure all the paper we can and proceed to cover everyone’s tents. We’re pretty proud of ourselves for not waking anyone up, and we’re giggling about it way too loud so we head back to the crapper to chat some more before going to sleep. Three of us head up there and the oldest member of our tent group is finishing up TPing the Youth Leaders tent. So when we get to the bathroom, we think, “Hey let’s hide and scare the crap out of the other guy when he gets here.” So we walk into bathroom and go in the shower and stand up on some benches they had in there so the guy can’t see our feet. We’re quiet as can be waiting to hear footsteps on the concrete and the door opening with our buddy coming in. We wait and wait and wait and nothings happening. All of the sudden out of freakin nowhere this dude slides under the stall door, head first, right at us screaming like a banshee. After we recover from the OH SH** we realize it’s our buddy and not some meth head. It scared the heck out of us though. How he managed to sneak in totally silent was beyond me. It was stellar stalking. We’re still recovering and giggling about it like school girls when we hear footsteps on the concrete outside. This time all 4 of us are in the bathroom (outside the shower now) and there’s no other groups at the campsite. We figured it’s our youth leader that heard the banshee scream and came to check it out so we wait again. He doesn’t come in and and we can hear him pacing back and forth on the concrete outside clear as day. Now we’re like “ok let’s bust out the door and scare him!” So we count to three…. Bust out the door yelling “RAAAHHHHH” …….and! …..Nothing. Nada. No one is there. We’re standing there for about 5 seconds thinking “what the heck” when all of the sudden loud as can be we hear the same footsteps and now scratching ON THE ROOF! Right above us. Ok, this is not our youth leader! It’s pitch black at the spot, we can’t see the roof but something is up there. We bolt back to the tent and as we go my buddy looks back to see a shadow cross the only light outside the bathroom. To this day we have no clue what it was. I would have chalked it up to a bobcat or possibly panther. The footsteps were heavy and it moved FAST. But the creepiest part of all is that my buddy swears to this day the shadow he saw cross the light was a human shadow. We didn’t sleep a wink that night and no one from our party ever came back to their tents so we know it wasn’t them.

Dude I would have been ticked off if y’all used up all the toiled paper! That’s a serious offense lol.

This isn’t really a creepy story but there was a old WW2 vet who grew weed about 20 years ago before it was legal. Another local found his grow site and decided to help himself. This didn’t sit well with the ol vet so he rigged up a booby trap. Trip wire and a shotgun. When the thief came back for seconds it blew his ass off… literally. Cops got involved after that but somehow the vet got off with no charges.

I really enjoy reading these weird and creepy stories from you all. It's a great "filler" for my work at home day while I'm uploading stuff and waiting for email replies.

I have another creepy story, that could have turned out extra bad for me.

About 12 years or so ago I was out predator hunting at night under the full moon. I had already made a few stands and was going towards the south side of town to call an area I've called before. I setup at the end of a road and hide just inside the woods, overlooking an open area. It was a bright night with no clouds in the sky and I could easily see several hundred yards over the white snow. I hiked out and put my FoxPro caller in the snow and setup my decoy. I walked back into the woods and setup to start the screaming rabbit on the FoxPro and decoy moving, being extra careful to be quiet. I had pulled my truck further down, and across the road in a small area about 80 yards or so from where I was hiding in the woods. I've parked there before and it's out of the way so no other cars or animals can see it. About 8 minutes into my stand of the screaming rabbit, I see lights coming down the road towards me, casting shadows in the woods where I sit, fully camouflaged in white. I quickly mute the caller and turn off the decoy from my remote. As I sit there in the woods, quiet as a mouse, the car pulls off the road, probably 50 yards or so from where I'm at. The car was behind me, so hadn't drove far enough to see my truck. I hear people talking and see shadows moving through the woods as they cross in front of their headlights. It sounds to me like they're getting something out of the vehicle and trying to move it. They start moving into the woods, struggling with whatever they're doing as I remain totally silent, rifle loaded and ready to roll. The guys stay in the woods for a short time, chatting to each other and digging in the snow it sounded like. I strained to peek through the woods to see what they were up to, but couldn't make out their location. Eventually, they quietly made it back to their vehicle and did a U-turn in the road and tore out of there. I gave it about 5 or 6 minutes before starting to get up and retrieve my caller and decoy. I gathered up my stuff and quickly exited the area, uncertain of what had gone on, or if they were going to be coming back into the area.

Fast forward a few weeks after that odd night, and come to find out, three guys had murdered a local man and hid him in the woods in the area where I was. I'm certain that that is what was going on as I quietly hid in the woods that night. I'm so thankful that I didn't walk out and surprise them or anything, because chances are they would have tried to do something to me. I'm also glad that they didn't drive down the road a bit further and see my truck. I always sort of wished that I would have searched the woods that night after they left, but decided to just play what I thought was a safer route and get out of there.

This area has since been turned into a local park and is cleaned up nicel.

Here's an article on the murder:

Is this Tanana Lakes Rec Area by the Cushman "Fortymile Readiness Center"?

"Van Down By the River"

Trying to find an open fishing spot along the river, we went down to one of the access points we rarely used. A dead in road in the timber, that you had to walk about 50 yards to get to the river (not a lot of people used it because you couldn't back up to the water). About half way in there we saw a conversion van backed into the trees. It was out of place, you could tell it had been there for a while and it instantly creeped me out. I told my dad, that was weird and I didn't want to fish there. About a week later there was an article in the paper from the Sheriff, asking for info about a van down by the river. So he went down to talk with the sheriff. He found out that the guy in the van had been reported missing for quite a while and it appeared he had committed suicide in the back of the van. I now assume all creepy vans in the woods have dead people in them!
Great thread!

My brother and I found a mid 90s suv in the woods elk hunting last year. It wasn’t in a spot I’d camp, it was more/less hidden and parked right in the trees. Walked by it 2 days, figuring the owner was out hunting at the time. 3rd day there was snow and no tracks coming or going so we checked it out. Figured 100% there’d be a body in there. No body just a bunch of belongings and trash. Called it into the Co Sheriffs Office but never heard what came of it. Would have been a 5 mile hike to town so kinda weird.

I’ve also had that being watched feeling. Hiking into my stand, stopped and turned on my headlamp and had narrow set eye shine back from about 20’ off the trail. I think it was a coyote but it left quietly and quickly after I turned the light on. Never got a good look at it.
