Dad daughter camping trip

Great advice in here! Food and more food! And make sure they can get dry and warm... unbelievable how easily some kids get cold.

I took my four oldest backpack scouting the other weekend. I had to leave them to climb a ridge to glass. Ages 5-12. Left them fire starter food and water and told them I'd be back. Haha they're always playing "alone" and they had a lot of fun. All survived.

They really like the snacks and roasting mash-mellows.

They really aren't happy with me and question their life decisions on hiking in. But I try and only take them on places I've already been. And only a couple miles in.

If you're truck camping that'll make life a lot easier. It sure can be a little stressful even hiking an easy almost flat mile when it's hot and there's a few stream crossings with four mini yous in tow.

Just make sure they're warm at night.

I am taking my two daughters 6 and 8 on a camping trip in a couple weeks when mom has a girls weekend at the coast. We will be camping in the Idaho panhandle in my wall tent at a primitive campground with pit toilets. I plan on fishing, berry picking, lake swimming/ paddle boarding. Maybe even an evening glassing for bears.

What are some ways I can make this a memorable experience for them? Activities or just ways to make camping more fun.

I did all that with my daughters and just went by the idea that I need to make it fun for them too. I like to hit the water before sunrise but they didn't, so we fished when it was hot. Stuff like that made it fun for them

and the wife telling scary stories at night by the fire was fun and they still talk about it a decade + later.

you'll remember these days for the rest of your life.

Ha! My daughter must have a boiler, one night we're out and got into the 20s I kept waking up and checking on her and she kept kicking off her blanket and sleeping bags! All night! In the morning she said she slept great. It still cracks me up.

Lots of good ideas here---someone mentioned it earlier, but my kids loved to catch critters in hand nets--fish, bugs, snakes, frogs, etc. and made so many good memories doing it. They also spent a lot of time reading in camp between activities--having good camp chairs under a tarp where they can hang out outside the tent but still protected from sun/rain is good for kids, Have fun!

Well the camping trip was a success!!! Other than my oldest daughter getting sick the first night we had a blast. Visited 3 mountain lakes. I packed there paddle boards 3/4 of a mile into one. We caught hundreds of frogs, picked lots of berries, hiked a few miles, cut firewood, swam a few laps and even caught a couple fish! They took over 300 pictures on my old digital camera. I am going to make them a little photo album from this pictures!!
