Daylight Hours

Hello!

So, in mid through late August on the haul road for caribou.. what can I expect for daylight hours? I've been to Alaska for bear during the longest day of the year, so I get the always daylight concept.

However, daylight websites show there being x amount of hours of "sunset" or "dark". Is it actually dark in those couple/few hours? Dusky? Still visibly daylight? What should I expect?

Thanks everyone!

Depending on how far north your going you should have daylight from 6am to almost 10 pm but will be losing 5+ minutes a day.

If that's the case, there's less time per day of sunlight near prudhoe bay than there is in the lower 48. So actual darkness from the hours you said?

Granted I'm the one asking the question so I clearly don't know. But that doesn't sound totally right? Is that timeframe you mentioned for sure right?

No. Here’s a sunrise sunset times chart for prudhoe bay. End of august you start losing 10 ish minutes a day of the sun being out but you get an hour or so on either end of usable light. If it’s clear out you’ll have more civil twilight than if it’s cloudy and gray.

Thank you! So it sounds like it's never true darkness though? Not in that time of year yet at least, of course.

depends how far north you are but by the end of August you’ll have a few hours of darkness. Either way you’ll have plenty of daylight. Enjoy.

That was a great table Htm. So, practical experience in the North in mid to late August is having your camp established by 9pm because twilight with clouds or weather means headlamp by 10pm or really low light at best. On high pressure days with no clouds, daylight is a little longer. Dark as grizzly breath between 1:30-4 am, then its game on
