Just wanted to share a report on a wonderful Bowhunting trip I had in Sonora Mexico with Agua Dulche Outfitters. Everything was first rate - accommodations, food, staff - and the hunting was superb.
For those worried about safety - we were met on the U.S. side of the border, escorted across, driven about 90minutes to camp, and in their care for the entire trip until they returned us across the border after the trip (albeit a few pounds heavier). Never felt unsafe at all during the entire adventure.
I saw plenty of deer but was determined to take a fully mature buck. There are some true giants there to be had, but like anything else they are not behind every cactus. About half way through the week I had an opportunity on a beautiful buck with great genetics that was likely high 170s. But it was one of the most agonizing moments as I recognized that the deer was still young. So, the choice was to take a good scoring young buck with exceptional genetics, or pass and let him grow into the monster he’s destined to become. He was a gorgeous deer and I really wanted to shoot him, but would never forgive myself if I did. So I passed.
We were checking trail cams all week and stumbled across some picks of a very nice mature 4x4 and an ancient 4x3 fighting over some does. So, with two shooters working the same area with does just prior to coming into heat we decided we set up there the next morning. We didn’t have to wait long. As soon as the does began showing up, here came the old 4x3. He was clearly the boss of the neighborhood because the second he walked out all of the other does and bucks scattered.
The good news was he “bird-dogged” every doe in the neighborhood. He came by us several times never even slowing down along the way. Then, it happened. As he chased another doe past us, she paused, and then he paused at about 30 yards, slightly quartered away. My arrow found its mark and later that morning we were standing over what appeared to be about an 8 1/2 year old deer. He was an old 4x3 bruiser 30+ inches wide, with a couple of broken tines from fighting. Not super high scoring but very much a trophy that I was happy to take. It was a great hunt that I’d recommend highly.
While I was there a female Bowhunter who‘s hunt overlapped mine shot this beautiful buck that I personally taped at 193 (picture below on the truck tailgate).
