Good reminder. I made a few mistakes in 08 through 10. Need big balls in this market. You won't lose anything if you don't sell it. I have a few stocks down in today's market and admit a bit difficult not to panic.

You have to have an establish strategy, I really didn't in 2008. Reacted on emotions instead of a sound based strategy and patience. A lot of guys on here much more experienced than me. I keep trying to learn. Good luck.

Yes emotions will wreck long term plans. Hard to separate and not panic on those swing days.

There a few I wouldn’t touch right now. Last I heard Cruise lines don’t get loans if they are registered outside US, which is most of them. That can’t go well especially with a new one today with 138 sick, 4 dead in the boat. who the heck is still on a boat!

+1 on the cruise lines. I want to invest in them, but can't bring myself to do it.
That non-US registry is the gig...

HBI (Hanes) was mentioned here. Super solid company right near a 5 year low. Trending downward for a while, but probably good for a 25-30% gain.

Scary times for sure. I'm quarantined waiting on test results. It's been a week and still waiting. Had all the symptoms except for the fever. and just happened to be in a place here where we have the most cases working for 2 weeks in the last month. A few broke with it in the building I was working at and I was a few feet from that area several times over that period.

As Far as investing goes, I increased my 401K contribution. I like buying when the market drops like this.
Who doesn't like buying at 25-30% off.

Be safe everyone. Most people wont show symptoms worse than a cold but others will be hospitalized and in very serious condition.
This is not a joke.

Be safe everyone.

If you guys can; read the stimulus bill. Its filled with a metric-sh*t-ton of pork that the democrats demanded. Some single lines are in the multiple billion dollar range. I.E. $1b for more obama phones. Figure out who is going to contract with the gov't to provide those phones and service and buy early before the value is realized.

The wife and I grabbed 200 shares of Boeing at $92. Also picked up substantial positions in:
BP @ $16.50
Chevron @ $62
ExxonMob @ $35
Disney @ $81
Apple @ $212
Starbucks @ $52

I figure we'll play the long game with these ones and setup auto dividend reinvestment. Before the mass hysteria hit us; Apple was reported for a possible split this year with 5G coming out. We are considering increasing our holdings before the society goes back to normal life.

When Pelosi sent her wishlist to Trump with wind and solar credits, I took a hard look at Tesla. I think its overvalued by at least 25% right now, but if the wind/solar gets included in the second stimulus package, I'll be buying a position.

What do you guys think people will be spending their Trump checks on? Iphones, amazon, paying off credit cards?

very solid!
when was Apple at $212? Been watching all week and I wasn’t able to catch it Monday at its low of $224.

It’s sounds like it’s Obamacare for the Coronavirus. Most wont care as long as the check arrives.

I saw where Trump said there was a lot in it that he wasn’t happy with, but had to compromise. I guess that’s the rough thing about almost equal parts in the house, gonna get a lot of junk added in.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, cause I am sure there is a lot of money to be made in the short term, but I have real concerns this is NOT going to be a quick turnaround. I also do not think we are even close to the bottom. Hope I am wrong, but staying in mostly cash position for a while.

I’m not doom n gloom depression minded either, I think it’s go some room to drop, wouldn’t be surprised to see 15,000. I’m ok with that and not gonna panic if it hits as far as 401k goes. Cash buying at that point I’ll be excited!

I think we are about 3 weeks out from the hospitals getting overwhelmed and 3 months from peak infections. The market will continue to drop as long as America is on lock down and fear driven. However, wide spread roll out of the sercological antibody tests could help people get back to work sooner. I'm still on the side lines, waiting.

As I posted previously, and as others have said, there is a lot of short term money to be made. Stop trying to figure out where the “bottom” is and just play the game day to day. At this point, why does it matter to you where the bottom is? If you are still invested long term, you’ve lost so much that it’s irrelevant.

I’m just curious where some of you think the “bottom” is and go ahead and share with the rest of us how you will know it’s the bottom.

You won't know........until you do. After the 3 day rally this week one might assume that Monday was the bottom. And one could be right. Or they could be wrong, and we'll see lower. Or we could retest Monday's bottom and bounce and see a "W" bottom. Who knows? That's why you average back into it. That's for long term investing........if you have funds that you just play around with as well, that's when you play the dips and rebounds.

I agree with you. You won’t know, until you do. You understand this, but I see people keep posting on here saying “it’s not even close to the bottom” and I think these people are just talking out of their ass. They don’t have any actual knowledge to base this statement on. They just like to say it as if they are informed in some way. The only thing you can reliably predict about the market is that it’s unpredictable. Accept that, make the best educated guesses you can, and roll with it.

I'd say you can also reliably predict it will go up in the long run. Even if this isn't the bottom, one is still getting in at a discount of where it was a few months ago. It will bounce back, just don't know when. Long term this is a good time to buy, even if it's not the true bottom. Better to get in at a lesser discount rather than keep waiting forever for the "true" bottom.

I wonder if ABT is gonna get a good bounce Monday with releasing the 13 minute CV test? Said they can make 50,000 per day. That’s got to be sold out nonstop

I agree 100%. Long term, no way to go but up.
