Have you found that if you don't seal the food in air tight packaging soon after FD does it absorb atmospheric moisture and go soft quickly? What's your preferred packaging for different uses?
It will take on the moisture from the air pretty quick. I live in CO so pretty dry for most of the year but we still package everything pretty quick. For things we use often like eggs, fruits, herbs, snack foods and such we just put them in large mason jars. Usually no need for an O2 absorber if you are going to use it in a month or two. For long term storage or backpacking meals I just put the food in 5 mil Mylar bags and add an O2 absorber before sealing. It is pretty simple and easy. You get a heat seal bar with the dryer and you can buy the bags in large sizes at bulk quantities. Cut and create any size bags you want with the seal bar.
