I came across what was left of a turkey that got jumped by something and found enough tail feathers to make up a fan. My goal was to make a fan that wouldn't be big can cumbersome.
I had some lightweight carpet from menards that I hot glued all the feathers together to.
I found it was easier to roll up if there was less carpet in the middle. I then cut another piece of carpet the same shape and hot glued that on on top so it wasn't near as ugly and made it a bit stronger, I added some staples swell.
It's nothing pretty but it works, it takes some adjusting once you fold it up and put an old tube sock around but I think its a compromise compared to hauling around a full size stiff fan.
