I have been looking around at upland strap vests for awhile now and realized that since I already have a few old hip belts and shoulder straps around from old packs that it may not be that difficult to make one.

Has anyone done this before or have any ideas on it? Been looking at the wing works and final rise vests and would like to try to make something along those lines.

Started working on making a upland strap vest, ordered some 1000D Cordura from RipStop along with some webbing and buckles. Decided I should start small with the project and started with making a pouch for the belt to hold shells.

Sized it to fit a full box of 12 ga shells and have them sit deep in the pocket to keep from loosing any.

Added a nice easy flap lid with webbing and a buckle to keep closed, I wanted to be able to tuck the lid into the pocket when hunting to allow for quick and easy access to shells, but still be able to keep it closed to keep from losing stuff when traveling or hiking.

Lastly for this pouch, added some pals and molle to the back of the pouch to allow it to connect onto the hip belt I already have. Last picture is with the pouch attached to the hip belt, yellow webbing is part of the Mocked up vest system as I was trying to figure things out on dimensions and how it would all fit together.

One of my first sewing projects so still working out a few things, learned quite alot from this small pouch, and learned a few things that would make this much easier and faster for the next ones.
