I posted this on a thread in the youth forum but figured I could post it here as well.

I just chopped down a Remington 700 in .223 for my boy recently. I had a gunsmith cut the barrel to 18" and re-crown it. Then I cut around 3" off the stock. I cut part of the cheek rest off so I got the dremel out and reshaped that and hand sanded it smooth. I built a recoil pad with a 1/4" sheet of plastic and a flip flop. It doesn't look amazing but it will look a little better after some paint.

The gun fits him great right now, maybe a touch long still and his little brother will get it when he gets a little bigger. It will be easy to find another stock for when they grow out of it.

He did a little shooting on Sunday and did good with it. My goal is calling coyotes and to have him shoot a coyote this fall.

When we went shooting the other day he was lifting his head to get a full scope picture. I decided to add a Kydex cheek riser. I picked up a little reflex red dot too, it might be a little easier to find moving coyotes with this. I painted the stock for him as well.....green is his favorite color so we went with a black and green worn look. Its been too cold to go shoot but I'm excited to see how he does with it.

I did the same thing with a Rem synthetic stock for my 10 year old daughter. I cut mind just behind the cheek piece so I wouldn’t have to deal with reconstructing it like you did. Added a 1” grind to fit Lymbsaver. She hasn’t shot it yet but seems to fit her good. The real test will be shooting it. Here a .260 Rem.

Update us on how she does with it. Its been cold and snowy here so we haven't got him out to shoot anymore either. This spring and summer we will put it to the test though.

When I bought my son his first rifle it came with two stocks, the original and a youth stock. The guy that I bought it from had bought it for his son and he shot it acouple times and refused to shoot it anymore because he did not the noise. So anyhow where I was going with this is my son is in his mid 20s and he still uses that gun with the youth stock on it. I have ask him many times if he wants the original stock put back on and he says he like the way it fits. His elk rifle has a regular stock on it and he likes the way it fits also, but he says that his deer rifle just sits right for him. So your son may just never give up that stock.

Here’s the one I cut on my daughter’s rifle.

Wow nice job. It’s difficult to watch my boys shoot as they search the eye relief for a good view of the target. I recently purchased a manners MCS-CS stock. I didn’t have the balls to cut my own stock down in fear of ruining one
