Out bear hunting last night and today came across this log. Is this bear or more likely just other small mammals?

This is my first time specifically hunting bear so I thought I'd ask.

Yes, logs and stumps. You can usually find claw marks and get an idea of how big the bear is. They eat ants, grubs and rodents hiding in the rotten wood.

Yup, stumps have ants and bee hives.

I was in my saddle over a wallow last year elk hunting when Beautiful Blonde phase sow with 2 big cubs came in and tore up a stump 15 yds from me.

She must have thought it had a bee hive but it was those yellow jackets and they swarmed the crap out of her. She was spinning and dove into thick bush wiping them off her face with the cubs running away...pretty entertaining.
