Dog help

I have a German wirehaired pointer that is five years old, weighs 55 pounds, and is very active. Her anal glands are giving off a horrible smell. The vet expressed them, and that helped for a bit, but the problem keeps reoccurring. We run her nearly every day. She eats diamond natural dog food, but her poop is not as firm as it should be. Do any of you have any suggestions to help with this nastiness? Is there a higher fiber dog food that you like? We have tried adding pumpkin, but that didn’t help much. I hope someone has the answer before I puke!

Not sure this will solve all the problems but we find 100% pumpkin helps our dogs systems, lots of fiber.

I've been running eukanuba pro for my two pointers for years. It solved that problem and my 11 yo dog still crushes big hunts.

If you get somebody to hold your dogs collar then get your dog between your legs gently squeeze right in front of there hips , with each index finger a 1/2"either side of anus push in then squeeze but keep your face back because i almost got hit in the face doing a friends beagle.

25% protein, but I am trying to supplement it. I am also trying to supplement for higher fiber. It's not fish...maybe that's what I need.

I have. She didn't mention anything about that. She gave me some powder to try sprinkling on her dog food.

Great advice. Also made me want to gag and laugh thinking about how horrible that would be!

I have a Weimaraner and we had him on the Blue Diamond food , same thing , horrible smell !
We switched to Royal Canine and the smell went away in a couple weeks .

Side note , I sprayed myself excising his glands , it was traumatic for me and him , LOL Lucky for me nobody was there to see it .

I would switch food and observe. A vet friend recommended a probiotic for me when one of my dogs just seemed to poop constantly. It helped tremendously and we transitioned him onto another dog food.

Some things are worth paying the vet to do. IMO this is one of them lol.

Mostly got on my glasses , a little on my forehead. I laughed more than anything , it was pretty stupid , even for me .

Any obvious visible allergies? Large chunk of anal gland problems are do to some sort of allergy (whether it be environmental or food).

If stool is loose more often than not, try switching to royal canin or science diet first. I’ve had to switch some dogs to prescription diets and/or put on allergy meds to get rid of the problem.

Glandex seems to help some dogs, but then doesn’t do much for others.

As asked above, make sure they aren’t infected and need to be on antibiotics (I’m sure your vet would’ve mentioned it they were).

Anal glands are a huge pain in the butt, literally. So many problems with them from infection, impaction, to even nasty cancers. Wish dogs didn’t have them to begin with.

I would try a good food. I have never had to deal with this. Kinetic is what I feed now. Know a bunch of guy using both prop plan and inukshuk.

I mean i would try inuksuk or red paw. Either of those are what I would feed if I didn't feed Nutrisource to my dog. Try Nutrisource. There's a bunch of different proteins you can feed too. It's what his breeder fed him as a puppy so I continued on. I have no complaints. His poop smells but what poop doesnt. And he doesn’t pass gass very often. When he does you know its time to go outside.
