i realize most of you guys probably shoot your own but we bought a few poults this year to fatten up for eating this winter. Just had a few randomly die off for no apparent reason and they are about 5 months old and weigh around 20-25 pounds each. We got a bunch of rain and it kind of muddy up their run area. Their crops were really full so i know they were eating still. I was thinking since their run got muddied up maybe they were not getting any grit to peck at. I was thinking if they got into something poisonous to them they should have died off much earlier. We were planning on killing them in the next week but then this happened and i am not sure if we should eat them or not. Any one have any experience with farming up some turkeys and have an idea what could have happened or if we could still eat them. Didnt see any noticeable worms in the meat or anything like that.
