What are the pros of using donkeys vs llamas? I've done a fair bit of research so far into llamas, and the lesser maintenance is interesting to me. But it appears that using a standard size donkey I would be able to haul a bit more weight, which would be really beneficial elk hunting. So, in comparison to llamas, should I be expecting a bunch more expenses in daily care? Do they need watered as often as horses? Will they be as good at following me through the mountains? Any advice will be appreciated!

Has anybody used both that can give me some positives and negatives? I'm not much of a horseman, that is why I am looking at these 2 options.

We have used both. I think if they are good stock you are going love both. The key being good - Well conditioned, used, experience, age all factors. We had better luck with some awesome donkeys and a couple good mules. The llamas didn’t fare as well but they weren’t set up for success. Both should work for you.
