I have found online that you can buy 900 fill goose down (3oz for $30.00) and ripstop nylon for around ($6.00 a yard). Anyone ever consider paying someone or getting a wife that can sew to make your own garments? After looking over all the company's that make these clothes it sure seems like someone could get a nice setup for a lot less money. Thoughts?

Have you seen what a down jacket looks like with a tear? I can only imagine having to sew one up. I bet you could easily find sizing patters and templates online then have a seamstress sew it all together.

But by then, are you really saving anything? Time is $$ too.

Yeah, your probably right. I considered getting my Aunt who sews often to try and make one but it would probably be a huge mess for her.
