Can anyone recommend an outfitter in Texas ? I go down once a year for work and I wouldnt mind the opportunity to take off an extra couple days and drive somewhere close to Houston.

Not recommendation just an FYI, you will probably find an outfitter in the region but the duck hunting has really gone down hill from what it was even just 5 years ago. Habit loss and farming practice changes are killing it. I’ll save the story but grew up on the west side and have watched it go from some of the best waterfowling in the country to not really worth talking about. The goose hunting there is not quite dead but definitely on the way to being just history.

If you are ok with a drive, the corpus area from December on still has decent hunting, Plus it’s a redhead paradise.

I agree with texas270 that recent years have been poor, but I have always shot a limit with Lance at Pintail. Only issue is that I think he generally requires 3 people to book. In any case, you really need to get out towards Eagle Lake to up your changes at success (assuming you are not looking for coastal).

I would head further south down the lower coast. The prairie while still holds a lot of birds, has a ton of pressure and can be iffy. Check out Nate at Hired Gun in Port Aransas

Castaway lodge, Seadrift TX. Captain Kris Kelley has great guides and top equipment. We go in January, great mixed bag pintails, bluebills, redheads, teal, widgeon, gadwall, etc. About 2.5 hours from Houston.

1. What part of the state will you be in?
2. Any target species?

Just about any where along the coast will hold birds. I prefer a little further south but that whole area is good. When I have clients I take them to bay flats lodge. About 2.5 hrs from Houston

For Early Teal season around Eagle Lake I like 2W Outfitters https://www.2woutfitters.com

For all season waterfowl and crane around Matagorda it's hard to beat Run-N-Gun http://www.run-n-gunadventures.com

In Seadrift you have the infamous Bay Flats https://www.bayflatslodge.com

Any further south I only know of individual guides, I have no experience with waterfowl lodges from Port Aransas south.

I agree with the others, the coast is where it's at here in Texas for the best odds of success, even Eagle Lake is a shell of its former self. I blame the newer more efficient farming techniques, there's just very little food left in the fields these days.
