Hey all...Drew a rifle early season tag for Holy Cross Wilderness. Was very excited but now starting to think this was a mistake as I am reading more and more how difficult this hunt is as far as finding deer. Seems contradictory as success rates are pretty good for that hunt. I am a very seasoned solo archery elk hunter so not worried about hiking, camping, loneliness, etc. Just wanted some honest opinions on feasibility of this hunt. I have no problem eating a tag but I at least want to see some deer up high, LOL. Scouting (on the ground) will be limited to a few days in July. Thoughts?

Not sure where you are hearing about difficulty finding deer in the White River National Forest but I would keep the tag if I were you, even if the deer have moved out of the Alpine Basins due to weather or freezes burning the good feed up high. If like you said, you are willing to hunt your tail off in rugged near to above treeline country, you'll probably at least have a good time.
