I'll go look again, but I think before I went to the field, I did exactly what you said, and rotated the pins 90".

Rubber caps on the ends would fix any remaining "pokey" factor.

Yeah the updated tall F1 fixes the issue completely.

And side note for anyone who has read this far: I certainly hope I'm not giving the impression that this fix is a way to get "the best pack in the universe" or anything like that, cause it's not. But it was a cheap fix that made the short f1 frame a heck of a lot more comfortable and functional.

I saw it for what it was - a clever fix for a common problem. Nice work! Check out my F1 mod thread if you haven't already. The F1 tall is a great system to start with, but I feel I made it even better and I'm completely satisfied with my end result.
