Well…the wife drew a share elk hunt (Bull) in California, and I wondering what I should load up. I am leaning towards the Barnes 140gn or the 150gn. She shoots a model 7 in 7mm-08. Let me know your thoughts, of course has to be lead free…

I don’t think you can push the 150 fast enough with a mono to be worthwhile. 140 ttsx or 139lrx are easy choices.

140 Barnes TTSX or Hornady CX. Whichever the gun shoots better.

LRX or Hammers if you handload.

It takes speed to get the monos to mushroom. Hornady’s GMX needed 2K to expand properly. You don’t need a heavier bullet anyway because wt retention is much higher for the monos then it is for the bonded core. I shoot (did) 130gr GMX out of the .270 with 3100fps at the snout. Hornady’s new CX bullet looks promising. I think the new designs are trying to bump up the BC for the monos.

I shoot 140gr TTSX's from my 7mm-08 for everything. Good results on elk, deer and bears at ranges from 12 feet to 275 yards.

Just keep shots to reasonable ranges where your velocity will not dip to far below 2000ish fps and you will be fine.
