I'm planning to take my grounded-by-lockdown bored 10-year old to shed hunt this 5/1. Not trying to be lazy but with kids playing hockey all my winter weekends were spent at ice rinks - scouting for elk winter range was nearly impossible and even ice fishing I only managed to do twice. I'd appreciate it if someone who knows the whereabouts of wintering elk herds in as far out west as GMU 45 would point me to some locations.
My desktop research pointed me to the southern slopes near town of Minturn and also the nearby Homestake Creek valley area. I once rode my motorcycle through the town of Minturn and saw a truck full of antlers, enough to make an arch like the one in Jackson WY. So I was impressed. We'll hike and glass and take at most 1 (and its matching other). Thanks ahead!
