I found a 6 point elk shed hunting sage grouse a couple weeks ago. I've never measured anything before but I thought this one looked fairly large.

Here's what I measured.

G1 - 15.5"
G2 - 16"
G3 - 12"
G4 - 16"
G5 - 8.5"
Main - 41"

Mass
10.25"
6.5"
5.75"
5"

I'm guessing that's a fairly respectable animal. Or, did I just screw up measurements?

I'll post a pic of it in a bit.

Your H1 seems out if proportion from the rest. You measure above the G1’s not the burr. Sounds like a nice bull, good time length for sure! I always figure 38” for width on sheds.

G1 is 10.5” when measured that way.

The measurement needs to be taken on the outside curve of the point, not inside.
You’re gonna get a lot more length

Something like this - and where the point intersects with the main beam

Lol. Told I’ve not done this before!

Is this where you measure H1?

If you use a 1/4” steel tape and a measuring cable you’ll get a lot more length in your readings - read up on how to measure antlers. It’s quite a process and fun.

Or a piece of string and then lay the string down next to a yardstick or something.

All right, remeasured using this and this as guides. I updated the measurements in the original post. I was way off on the G5!

I measured to these spots which may not work for record books but, I'm sure, it's close enough.
