Well I guess that’s interesting. They can’t actually do that in Forest service ground because policy dictates the allotment has to be used every year. The permittee can only take non use for like 2 years in a 10 year period or they forfeit the permit. That was a play by the cattleman’s association to prevent the environmental groups from simply buying up permits and getting rid of the cows.

Western watersheds certainly isn't a hunting friendly organization but if there are bughorns in area and the producer has domestic sheep in the area that's a win.

The $8200 is was up front money, cost is $800 annual fee plus lease payment based on number of animals put on lease. The envos want to have it changed from a grazing lease to a conservation lease. No information on whether or not hunting or fishing would be allowed if it was changed

This is idl ground, and I believe IDL leases are non-exclusive. So hunting would’ve been allowed, and will still be allowed, under the lease so long as hunting is otherwise allowed in the area.

Not to mention that Idaho fish and game is currently paying IDL for access on IDL lands.
