I did not grow up in a hunting family and did not get into rifle hunting once we moved to Colorado from Texas.
Whitetails and antelopes filled our freezer every Fall. Elks remained elusive, but the quest offered many great adventures.
After a few years, I got the bug to try trad archery and it went downhill from there.
Falls would find me longbow in hand and I was fairly successful. I mainly chased antelopes in Wyoming.
The closest I got to an elk was on a Western Slopes hunt near Carbondale. I could see and smell him move on the other side of the junipers, but he vanished without a sound.
We ended up moving back to Texas about six years ago and was blessed to get to hunt a ranch a few hours North of San Antonio.
I had to switch bows and hunting styles, as a 66" ASL is not the most practical to maneuver in a blind.
A 62" R/D longbow helped, but those super alert Texas whitetails drove me to switch to a recurve this year.
This also allowed me to drop from #61 to #52 without any loss of performance.
Looking forward to fun discussions and a knowledgeable community.
