Fairbanks/Anchorage AK in May - Self-Guided Hunt Options?

I just found out I'll be traveling to Fairbanks for work in mid-may. I'm hoping to take some time off and do some fishing and/or a black bear hunt while I'm over there. I can't drop a ton on a guided hunt, so I'd be looking at DIY or a self-guided hunt with an outfitter. I also missed the deadline for controlled hunts, so I'd need to hunt a unit with OTC black bear tags. I'm thinking I could book an open-leg flight, and take the train from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Does anyone have any recommendations on areas, outfitters, lodging, transportation, etc.? Thanks!
