I’ve been wanting a “do it all” big game rifle for a while. The idea was something light weight so today I went to Cabela’s and picked up a Fierce twisted rival to add to the safe. 300 win mag was all they had in stock and that’s been a caliber I’ve considered for a long time. I have a Leupold VX5 with the windplex reticle on the way to top it off.

They also had a Seekins PH 2 but the finish was so shiny I couldn’t see it as a hunting rifle. I really like the feel of that gun but the deal breaker was that the barrel seemed longer than the claimed 26” when I held it. That’s hard to explain but it seemed like it would be unwieldy in many hunting scenarios.

I have to find some ammo before I can hit the range but so far everything about it is what I was looking for, at least while sitting in the office chair messing with it.

I have a PH2 that shoots fantastic, but I could sure like that Fierce. Be sure to let us know how it shoots.

I have two fierce rifles topped with the VX-5. I went to the fierce long range school last year and had a blast. You will love it.

I have one which started as a twisted rival in 7rem and it’s been a awesome gun and I loved it as a 7 rem and I was doing 175 EH at 3040 FPS and was 1” groups at 200 yards.
Never shot father than that with the 7 mm barrel. I rebarreled it to a 27” 1-8 twist 270 cal barrel to shoot 170 EH. And it shoots them amazing at 3125 FPS.
It’s my favourite rifle I have.
I kept the barrel so I can go back to it later when I get bored or run out of 270 components and can’t find more.

Scope and rings came in today. Still waiting on the 20 MOA Talley rail to get here. Then I can put it together and take it for a test drive.

How far do you shoot ?
All my guns/ scopes I have have more than enough dial to get me past 1000 yards !!
So just wondering why the rail and how far your going to shoot ?

Unless you burn up half of your available moas on your scope sighting in with an ultra slow load I don’t see the need for the ugliness and weight of a rail but please educate if I’m wrong !!

I chose that because it was the only thing I could find in stock to fit this rifle and I’m not very patient.

I’ve been traveling for a while and haven’t had the chance to shoot yet. All I can tell you guys is weight, feel, and trigger pull all are exactly what I was looking for. I’ve been grabbing different ammo as I can find it so I have a few options to see what shoot best. I’m about two weeks out from getting it to the range. Life has just been getting in the way since I bought the rifle.

Do you need to change your name now to 270win? :)

I figured it’s been long enough that I actually have some time behind the gun on the range and on hunting trips that I can give an honest update on my thoughts on this rifle.
First thing I have to say is it’s easy to carry even with the long barrel.
Accuracy has been right inline with what I expected it to be with my skill level. Shot a coues deer at about 300 yards and a few javelina over 600 yards with it standing off a tripod. Trigger is good out of the box and I haven’t made any adjustments.
I’m heading to Alaska for a black tail hunt with it in a few weeks. It has become my go to rifle for everything now. Haven’t even shot any of my other rifles except once when I sighted in after a scope change on my 25-06.
I think what you get for the price is fair and I have even been looking at getting another one in a smaller caliber for the wife and son to shoot.
