I just finished making modifications to the filbe main pack for my buddy going on his first backpack hunt. The bag already fits the mystery ranch frame, but as is you can’t haul meat between the frame and bag.
I started out cutting off any excess material. Starting with the Molle side panels. And compression straps. Then I undid the seem holding the lid on and removed the lid from the bag. After this I sewed the bag back together and some webbing around the selvage on the lid.
Then I added webbing and some auto lock buckles to the lid to make it into a floating lid. I also added surface mount buckles to the sleeve on the bag so I could attach the lid. It already had verticals straps running for the other buckles.
After this I added top compression straps and compression straps going to the frame.
I also used some Molle compatible compression straps for the front so you can obviously compress the front panel but also attach and bow or what ever you need to it.
Lastly I took one of the Molle panels I cut off and sewed it to the bag creating a load sling. It may look high but with the u shape it makes and the adjustment in the webbing it rides not to low but not to high
I probably didn’t do a great job of explaining everything. But it was a pretty easy way to save a bunch of money. There is less than 60 dollars into this bag total.
