Both of the modifications where for function, not weight loss, however it involved a hack saw and file along with the removal of a few ounces.

Before someone says it; yes, with a different scope, different mounts, and no stock pack it could be sub 6 lb unloaded; however function is my first priority.
Did you take the 9 oz of epoxy out of the grip and butt?

The Kimber Hunter has the gel in the stock. Mine is a Montana, so nothing to take out. After reading the thread on Hunter modifications I kind of want one to play around with though.

Kimber Hunter 280 AI, Vortex Razor LHT 3-15x42, Talley Low Rings.
Only modification was removing 8.5oz of gel from the stock and grip.

This thread is really good. https://www.rokslide.com/forums/threads/kimber-hunter-in-6-5-creedmoor-let-the-project-begin.84790/

To summarize, use something to pry the edge of the gelaway from the stock and spray some sort of oil (like hoppe's or WD-40) in the gap and let it soak in for a few hours. Screw something into the gel to give you a good grip and pull.

There is also gel in the pistol grip that can be removed.

I've not done it myself, so I'll just refer you to the above thread as that is where I'm getting my information from.

Thanks, that thread was spot on. In 5 minutes I just dropped 8oz from my sheep gun! Can’t complain about that!

I built my AR to be light and rugged.
Piston kit with ultra light hand guard paired with the liw mass BCG.
Use JHP rounds with the 5 round mag and it's a legal hunting rifle in most states.
There was a little bit of machining, but not for weight savings.
I've done some extreme cutting on gear for backpacking, but almost everything I bring on a hunt is lifesaving gear.
