I love the idea of Kifaru being bomb proof but if it’s at a huge weight penalty I’d pass. If it’s a pound then that’s fine.

One thing I should mention and one I should reiterate is occasionally if I work hard my lower back gives me trouble so the better weight carriage would be helpful.
The other is that I’m not a big guy. 5’10” 160lbs. If that matters.

They’re all top of the line.

It’s a vanilla vs chocolate vs strawberry thing. Not a pinto vs corvette thing.

Reckoning is on sale. It’s between that and the SG. I’ll decide soon and get measurements for the kifaru in case I go that way.

I like the extra pockets but I also like the slick design of the SG. It is nice to have separate spots to store stuff in the kifaru I’d imagine.

Reckoning compared to a SG 5900 is pretty apples to apples. I’ve had both. When you count the lid that comes with the SG you’ve got the same amount of additional storage outside of the main bag as a reckoning.

With the reckoning on sale it’s about $30 more than the SG

Don’t pay retail. If you’re a first responder or military both with give you a discount.

If not, bide your time and buy a gently used set up here. It’ll save you a few hundred bucks.

I wanted to quickly revisit this as I’m still looking and researching. I’ve just discovered Seek Outside and wanted opinions on those as well. Something for multi day with frame and shelf.

I should’ve said I’d like this pack to work for weekend camp trips as well.

Looking a lot at the kifaru hoodlum and reckoning, seek outside goshawk and SG Sky 5900 and Talus.

Honestly you’re overthinking it. My first pack was my dads old Boy Scout tubular aluminum frame monster from the late 60’s. Hundreds of miles hiked with that thing. Used it for the first time to haul half a mule deer out of the sierras in 1997.

I hunted with Osprey packs for decades before I even knew about “hunting” brand packs.

I guess what I’m saying is, a “great pack” is nice, sure. But there’s several other things that are FAR more important to get dialed in as a new backpacker and potential hunter.

Had it in my mind I’d buy something nice and quality the first time.

So as I’ve said in another thread and as my name suggests, I’m a hunting/camping newbie. I have some friends and acquaintances and this site to educate me and come along on trips.

I’m looking to purchase a quality pack system for all things. Paddle trips, day hunts, multi day camps and hunts.

Locally I just need it for the stand or local field to the car but I’ve been jumping at every out of state lottery that pops up so I’d want the pack to handle a few days as well. Whether it’s a hunt out of state or a camp and paddle trip (doing that this July).

I’ve focused on Kifaru. Their suggestion was a lite frame, Stryker XL, and a camp bag. Stuff in the camp bag can be left at camp and essentials can be carried on me, plus there’s a meat shelf in it.

They said it’d be perfect for day hunts but the camp bag increases the overnight stuff. Plus I can add a large pouch on the back of the XL.

I’m wondering if that’s be enough or if ppl here think it’s smarter to go bigger right from the get go. Like a 44 mag or Reckoning etc.

Kifaru did mention if I know the trip is long I can just order a larger pack only and then I’d have more options but that’s $$$

Thoughts?

First I’ve seen those guys. Good stuff? Priced along with the others. I’ll have to look into their options. Looks like one of the frames are obvious as I’m 5 10 165lbs. The packs I’ll research.

I’m selling one of blacks creeks packs currently if your interested, it’s the Statement pack, can go anywhere from 500 cubic inches to 4500 cubic inches and anywhere in between pretty much. (BAG ONLY) as I need my frame for my other bags

$375 in perfect condition

I have the EXO 3200, i have no trouble staying out three days, and most likely do another day or so. It's for sure a great day hunting pack.

Not sure on the blacks creek. Not sure on size yet but I keep hearing to go bigger. I don’t know what I do t know and probably won’t have all ultralight stuff so I keep thinking bigger. But idk.

As I said before I like the simplicity of the SG and SO and EXO while retaining the center or horseshoe zipper for access. Hard to ignore the ruggedness of kifaru as well.

I totally understand the buy once and cry once theory. I subscribe to that 100%. I also get you wanting to research and do your due diligence. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with the options you are looking at. Kifaru, SG, Exo, seek, you will be happy with any of those I think.
Good luck!

So that’s a integrated bag? Not a bag you attach to their frame
