For those that don't antelope hunt much, its hard to figure out what is considered a good herd count or how many lopes one can see in a good area. The last time I archery hunted west of Lusk about 6 years ago, one never lost sight of groups or singles in a full day of hunting. If I was to estimate, about 5-8 animals per square mile seems like the population estimate.
It's really hard to quantify when you can see for miles and miles, but there was a herd of 20-40 that never left the field by the ranch house. I know the population has taken a dip since then, but can someone with years of experience watching the herds give an outlook on this years prospects?
