Okay here is an odd case for anyone who wants to have a laugh. I bought a ‘Model 98’ Mauser’ from the Cabelas in Denver for a hell of a price. I disassembled it last night to clean and go over it, and it turns it, it does NOT chamber 8mm lol

it appears to have bdc 43’ stamped on the top of the receiver, it has 2 eagles on the receiver along with Mod98. Jaeger trigger looks newer and the barrel has different markings on the end, that when typed into google pull up ‘Springfield 1903’. All together on a Remington 700 stock. The barrel is great condition however. Going to find out what it is chambered in this week.

I’m going out on the hunch that whomever thought it was a great idea to sporterize it with a 700 stock thought 30-06 was the best round ever made, bar none, and took off the 8mm Barrel in lieu of Gods chamber. Then finished off the masterpiece with a Tasco 3-9x.

Here’s the barrel stamp on the end ‘RA 8-44’ with some octopus looking deal.

That's the Remington arms arsenal stamp with a flaming bomb used on '03 barrels.

Is that what that is? Looked like some sort of octopus when I was trying to figure out the hell it was.

last night I took it to a few places to see what exactly it was. The 30-06 Go and No-Go’s both fit. It would chamber a 30-06 but scratch the casing on the shoulder. So now a smith down the road has it so he can cast it later in the week.

Casting is done. It is in fact, a shitty 30-06 attempt. Chambering was off and the neck of the casing was hitting prematurely causing the scratching on the neck. Smith said he is able to make it shootable, but not responsibly. I’m naturally anxious around firearms anyway, so I think we’re going to find an 8mm barrel to put back on and make it like it’s supposed to be.

The 8mm is a great round if you roll your own. Super under-rated just due to how few ammo choices you have compared to the 06.

I've had a solid dozen sporterized mausers and 1903s over the years. They tend to shoot pretty good for me, and dang, the actions are usually slicker than pig snot. It also helps when you find em for bargain basement prices and just can't help but buy em...

yeah the action is something else. The jaeger trigger it has might be my favorite of all my rifles to be honest.
