I wouldn't rely on just gore tex with a pair of trail runners for snake protection. Get a good pair of leather boots too.

I broke my personal record for rattlers in 2020. I ran into 17! One literally woke me up while taking an afternoon siesta. He was coiled up around 1 foot from my head when I woke up and that was a crazy awakening!

Even though I run into so many snakes at work and scouting/hunting I never wear gators and never have a desire to wear them. Believe me, I work in snake country every day and there aren't too many weeks in the summer that go by without me running into them. I just keep aware of what's going on with eyes and ears. It's good to know snake hangouts and try to avoid bad situations. A rattler can only strike around 1/3 it's length so that's a good thing to keep in mind when hiking around yucca, rock, and brush. It's also a good idea to walk fairly slow and easy through country you know has snakes.

Gators are great protection but I don't wear them!
