Gift Ideas for the Wife at Home

Hey folks! I'm about 3 weeks out from my Colorado elk hunt, and just remembered I haven't planned any gifts for the wife while I'm gone. Her hands are full with 2 kids ages 11 and 3, and she will still be working a handful of days. The past couple years have either been a gift card to the spa or flowers/plants delivered about halfway thru my trip.

She'd be thrilled with either of those gifts again, but I was thinking I should switch it up. Anybody have other ideas that they have done for their wives??

I always give the wife a night out at a hotel or casino and a spa gift card pre-september. I also make sure she is loaded up on premade freezer meals like lasagna and spaghetti.

I always try to let her have her spa day before the season starts and a girls night out in the middle. Little different situation for me. Kids are 1 and 5, and we have NO family too help her watch the kids while I'm gone.

Cleaning service for the house while you are gone. And a massage while you watch the kids when you get home.

I usually try and schedule a babysitter and girls night with a friend or two.

I know this isn't exactly answering the what to get her while you're gone but... We agreed she gets a trip equal to my non-res tag budget. My wife can usually find great deals to Europe, currently, she is spending 11 days in Germany with a good friend. Her ticket from Seattle to Frankfurt and back was 500 round trip.

My wife used to always say if you can take a trip out west for a week then I get a trip somewhere too. I was fine with this because she definitely puts in more work around the house and with the kids then I do. Heck she could take 3 trips a year and I wouldn't care, she deserves it. Finally after always talking about it she booked a trip with one of her friends to Jamaica for 6 days. She got so homesick that she never wants to go on a trip without us again and I quit feeling guilty about leaving her to hunt. Lucky me I guess. I always do bring her home something. I'm really hoping this year it is elk meat because we have been out a while. Ha Ha

I sure appreciate my wife picking up the slack for me while I am off on my many bowhunts.
I try to make up for it all year, schedule any vacations she wants, weekly house cleaning and she has a season of weekly theater passes. As far as buying things I generally hold off because honestly we do a good job of buying for ourselves.

Shoot one the first day and bring her home some elk meat early. That’s what I try to do and my wife is normally happy for the meat and happy I’m home earlier than planned.

Hide little notes around the house that you know she will look while you are gone. Do it the night before you leave so she don’t see them while you are there. Like you miss her, how special she is.....I think you get the point. Keep us posted on what you did.

my wife, who is awesome for letting me hunt while she watches 4 young kids, cried the first time I made her a dozen freezer meals to help her out while I was gone. I spend an entire afternoon batching out about a dozen freezer meals (usually 4 recipes with 3 meals per recipe). It helps her out during the toughest time of the day with the kids and shows you are thinking about her. It’s now part of my pre-hunt preparation, along with a few gift cards for dinner out.

Usually during the middle of a hunting trip if I can find cell service I will have something delivered via Amazon Prime. Jewelry is always a good one. I work part time as a waterfowl guide and always take her out for a big fancy dinner the Sunday of opening weekend when I get home from the lodge. You'll be tired but on your way home from your hunt tell her to be ready in a nice dress when you get home. Makes it hard for them to be mad at you when you get home after being gone if they're in a fancy dress eating a good steak.

Wow! Thanks, guys! Lots of good ideas and a few I would have never thought of, especially the amazon wishlist. Turns out she has a pretty extensive one. Who knew?

I'll probably set up a babysitter for a night and pay for dinner for her and a friend.
The notes around the house is a great idea and what she would honestly enjoy the most. Plus, it's free!

I'll keep you guys posted what I decide, and let you know how it plays out.

Keep the ideas coming! We can all look back on this next year for another fresh idea! Even though she does say I deserve them, none of my trips are truly possible without her.

Elk scrotum make nice change purses!
I would have thought you were crazy for even saying this but a couple years ago the meat processor we went to had saved a bunch of them not knowing what he was going to do with them yet. He had mentioned making coin purses with them though! And honestly, it didn't seem like a bad idea. Maybe not legal, but if it were I'm sure they would sell!
