Picked this up last year as I was feeling the need for a lighter rifle to carry as a back up for some western hunting and have fallen in love with this rifle. I had a vx3 4.5-14 on it last year that I robbed off my 22-250. Now that the season over I’ve moved the vx3 back to the 22-250. I was sold on a 2-10x42 vx5 with fire dot but I’m questioning that choice mostly out of boredom I suppose. Scope will be mounted on a nf rail. 1” or 30mm makes no difference. Weight isn’t a huge concern but I’m not sticking a heavy scope on a 4lb 13 oz rifle. I’ve been thinking about a z3 Swarovski in 3-10x42. Maybe a SHV or something along those lines. Any scope reccomendations? Shots will stay within 350yrds load is a 165 Sierra gameking HPBT @ 2820 FPS. Very thick brush here in Smokey mtn area, one white tail I killed last year with this rifle was at a dead run @ 35 yards in brush. The other was a doe @ 306 over a food plot. If I’m going somewhere I can shoot more than 350 I’ll carry a different rifle.

For what you described, I’d pick up a VX-3 HD in 3.5-10 and figure out exactly where the point of the bottom post hit dead on at 10x with it zeroed at 200.

On the three Kimber Montanas I own...a .223, a 7mm-08 and a .338 Fed I use the Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36 with B&C reticule, a Vari-XII 2-7x33 with LR dots and a VX1 2-7x33 with LR dots respectively. All light, clear, decent eye relief scopes that still give the ability to stretch those calibers out to 400 yards and hit coyote size or larger game without issue. Or set the power down low for predator calling or protection when returning to pack out meat in grizzly country. They never get dialed and have held zero for 8-10 yrs on each rifle.

I have a Swarovski Z3 3-10X42 BRH on my Kimber Montana.
Another consideration would be the Maven RS.2 2-10X38 (SHR Reticle) at 12.4oz.....looking at this to put on a Fierce Fury in 7mm-08.

X2 on the vx3hd 3-10. The eye relief on that scope is amazing and the glass is right below the Z3. A 20oz+ scope is definitely going to make that lightweight unbalanced if you care.
