Gortex breaking down in your boots

Just got my first in a long time with goretex and have a couple questions.
1. How long do you expect the membrane to last with all the flexing a boot does?
2. If or when it stops functioning do you loose waterproof and breathability? So far my feet are staying dry in 90 degree heat but I'm worried if the gortex deteriates I'll have a sweat box.

It seems like the rest of my boot wears out before the GoreTex does (leather cracking or seams splitting). I keep them treated with DWR spray to maximize the water repellency. I've had some boots go for 7-8 years without issue.

I know they call GoreTex 'breathable'.. but any shoes or boots I have with out it breath much better and my feet stay cooler longer. If it deteriorates that bad you might have cooler feet!

I've had the same experience as JollyRoger, my feet sweat more in a goretex boot. I ended up going with a leather lined boot this time instead.
